Obituary for William Russell "Russ" Taylor
WILLIAM RUSSELL TAYLOR, 77, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away after a short illness on Monday, November 19, 2018. He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, settling in Jackson Twp., 33 years ago.
Russ joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and retired in 1977 as a Chief Petty Officer, working in Data Processing. He earned his B.S. at National University, Albuquerque, NM. After a short time as a consultant in data processing, Russ opened his own business, People Computer of Brick, with his son, Russell. After retiring from the business, Russ worked as a tax preparer for several years, first with H&R Block and more recently with Jackson Hewitt’s office in the Walmart store in Howell, NJ.
For several years, he was an adult leader of the Boy Scouts of America in NM and NJ. During that time, he became a Vigil Member of The Order of the Arrow. Russ was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Twp., NJ, where he served as an Usher for 30 years and was also a Eucharistic Minister. This June, Russ was elected as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, council 6201 in Jackson. He served many years with this organization and was looking forward to further serving as the Grand Knight.
Russ was predeceased by his parents, Terrence and Alberta Taylor; his brother, George Taylor; and by his sister, Alice Suchanek. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Taylor; his son, William Russell Taylor, II; his daughters, Kathryn Rosenblatt and her husband, Aaron, and Brenda McAndrews and her husband, Stephen; his 4 grandchildren, that were his pride and joy, Lorelai and Riley McAndrews, and Mason and Sadie Rosenblatt.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Memorial Gathering from 4-8 PM on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. His Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Please gather at 10:15 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Russell’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NJ 08527 and would be greatly appreciated.
